Where OMRA Is Going

OMRA has, to date, provided housing to four refugee families. These families pay an affordable rent set in consideration of their incomes. The remainder of OMRA's operating costs are provided through the work and generosity of supporters.

The need for rental subsidies is ongoing as expenses such as mortgage payments and property maintenance still exceed rental revenues. The participants mentioned earlier continue to provide funds for this purpose, much of which is presently generated though a grocery card fundraising program.

OMRA's vision for the future is an exciting one as we look to continue our mission and further expand our capacity to respond to the need for affordable housing.

OMRA is currently applying for a Seed Funding grant from CMHC for the purpose of investigating the feasibility of an affordable, community-based housing project. OMRA intends to explore how it might, together with a variety of groups and individuals, make good quality housing available at an affordable cost. If successful, this may result in a project combining rental units and units available for purchase, as well as the fostering of social interaction and a sense of community among the residents.
